Empty Bowl Art Project
by Students from Ms. Lamar's 5th Grade Art Class

Students in Ms. Lamar's Fifth Grade Art Class are participating in the Grand Prairie ISD Empty Bowl Art project. The students are making bowls from clay that they roll into coils. After the bowls are built and decorated, they will be fired in a kiln then hand-painted by the students. During the project students are using the digital camera to photograph their progress. These photos will be used to create individual books about the process that they went through to create a final product. The books will be placed on the Milam Elementary web page.
Students begin by rolling out the clay. The students added the coils together to create their bowls using the slip and score method.

Sergio adds coils to his bowl then smooths them out to create a uniform look. Frank and Pricilla work diligently to create their bowls.

Students follow directions from Ms. Lamar. Each day one student is assigned to be the table's photographer. The student takes photos of the bowls over time to document the process.

Each student trains the photographer for the next table.
